We met Juha in his youth. A challenging and mischievous boy who did not flourish within the confines of school or youth movements, and upon his enlistment in the army, he decided to push himself forward and invest his all in the service of others.
On January 29, 2015, Juha was killed during an operational activity on Mount Dov on the Lebanese border.
We sat at shiva with the family and heard stories about what Juha did for others. Stories of unceasing giving and kindness: motivational talks to teenagers in the little free time he had, food packages for Shabbat that he would bring to soldiers, furniture and washing machines that he would travel to bring to families in need, and many more stories that never stop coming.
We saw a true leader before our eyes. A leader with endless giving and doing for others. At this point, we realized that through Juha's path, we could advance youth to realize their inherent potential and, in his words: "fly forward with them."
During his military service, Juha received the Chief of Staff's Distinguished Service Medal, and after his fall he was promoted to the rank of Major.
Juha is a great inspiration to us and the youth. With humility, giving, and endless work for others.
